1-4 July 2012
Lisbon, Portugal
Website click here

The main objective of the congress is to bring together researchers and practitioners in biomechanics to stimulate and promote research on all core topics of biomechanics, including emerging research areas. The event will open on Sunday 1st July with a pre-course of interest to graduate students, post-docs, and young researchers. The main programme from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th July will feature different tracks of presentations from the delegation. Plenary sessions are planned to address current challenges in biomechanics research, and to provide valuable insight into the ever-increasing importance of collaborative research, interdisciplinary programmes, EU funding opportunities and biomechanical education programmes.

Based on the previous Congresses, we believe that ESB2012 will have a strong impact on the development of biomechanics research work, identifying emerging areas of research and promoting the collaboration between its participants.

The congress will be held in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Lisbon is a beautiful, historic city facing the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon has been a point of cultural interchange and encounter for many centuries for visitors and people coming from all over the world. It is a safe and pleasant city where delegates and their companions will feel at ease and will be very well received.

Aachen Body Engineering Days 2010
September 21-22, 2010
Aachen, Germany
Website: www.aachener-karosserietage.de

The Aachen Body Engineering Days have become a meeting event for body engineers during the last years. Lightweight design, intelligent material application and innovative structural concepts are more relevant than ever. We have invited a competent circle of experts, to gain new insights in these topics.
Strategic questions will be discussed in plenary lectures, e. g. which challenges result for the world car from the perspective of a leading car manufacturer, what does a complex product line require from vehicle structures and what material mix can we expect in future car bodies.
The current state of body engineering is demonstrated by the presentation of the latest car bodies. An outlook on the future will be given by new architectures for full electric vehicles.
Representatives of vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and research institutes report about developments in material lightweight design based on new alloys and innovative approaches with the use of fibre-reinforced plastics in the body structure. Further topics are lightweight potentials in glazing, innovative solutions for seat structures and unconventional door concepts.
We are looking forward to informative contributions and motivated discussions, giving new impulses and we would be happy to welcome you at the Aachen Body Engineering Days 2010.

ESAR

4th ESAR Conference
September 17-18, 2010
Hannover, Germany
website: www.esar-hannover.de
call for papers: PDF

In September 2004 the first international symposium called ESAR was carried out at the University of Hannover, followed by the second symposium two years later. This two year rhythm will now continue in 2008 and beyond. ESAR is a scientific colloquium and can be seen as a platform for exchange of information on accident research issues. Representatives from authorities as well as from medical and technical institutions come together to discuss new research issues and exchange experiences on accident prevention and the complex methodologies of accident reconstruction. Special focus is given to the target the European Union set for itself in 2000 which stipulates that within 10 years the number of person killed in road traffic accidents must be cut in half. To reach this goal, optimized measures, comprehensive research and analysis are necessary. A key hurdle comes from the European Union extension to 27 member states, each featuring different levels of traffic safety standards and different accident scenarios. Existing results from long term research projects in Europe, the USA, Australia and Japan including analyses of infrastructure, population, vehicle fleet and driver behavior offer an excellent basis for understanding and improving countermeasures and research support needs in underdeveloped countries.

ESAR's goal is to bring together researchers from all parts of the world, who will report on their methods and recommendations to improve traffic safety based on "In-Depth-Investigations" of real world accidents. These In-depth-investigations of accidents require thorough documentation and an accident data analysis on multi-disciplinary levels which must be carried out immediately after it occurs. ESAR presents scientists the opportunity to present their studies.

Never before there has been such a challenging time for the automobile industry as in 2009. Against the background of declining sales, demands from customers are increasing, e.g. greater fuel economy and environmentally friendly vehicle solutions. Ecology in mobility may not be at the expense of safety – safety still stands on top of the list of customer desires. In the automobile industry there are numerous approaches to improve vehicle safety. This continued development as well as new evaluations flow into Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program). To achieve the highest rating level, passive safety alone is not sufficient. Vehicles must achieve a minimum score in all four safety categories Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian Protection and Safety Assist. Indeed, a negative test result in one single category leads to a drastic reduction in the total result. The correct combination of the various safety systems will play a decisive role. On the one hand, intelligent occupant protection and on the other hand the integration of driver assistance systems must merge to the complete protection system of integrated safety. The present development boom of electric vehicles not only demands high safety standards but to some extent causes completely new questions. Therefore we would like to discuss this subject at the crash.tech 2010 as well as subjects like test and simulation, accident research, pedestrian protection as well as tangible system benefits for the driver. You will have the opportunity to meet experts and colleagues from research and development and to engage professional exchanges about the present state of technology and current challenges.

protection of children in cars

for more information: PDF

In the past years, this conference has been a worldwide platform for CRS research and development, for child accident research, biomechanics, as well as for consumer information and safety testing. The yearly the participation of about 150 interdisciplinary experts from 25 countries made this conference one of the most important international meetings.

Again in 2009 all important key subjects of child safety will be addressed. The advances of developing a new UN ECE regulation for CRS will be discussed as well as the alignment of European Vehicle Safety Directives with ECE regulations. The activities in defining a side impact test procedure are covered; reports will analyse the process in child dummy development. Recent results from accident investigations and new research methods in biomechanical tolerance limits of children are another key subject of this conference. Experience in consumer information, international NCAP testing and misuse studies will be shared and a special session is dedicated to emerging markets and their requirements for protection of children in cars and for effective safety campaigns.
